Singer Reimagined has unveiled the Heritage V72, a chronograph that is quite literally a piece of history brought back to life. Rather than creating a heritage-inspired homage, the independent Swiss brand has done something far more ambitious: it has sourced untouched, new-old-stock Valjoux 72 movements — components preserved in pristine condition for nearly half a century — and restored them to haute horlogerie standards. The result is not a reproduction, but a resurrection.
The Movement That Defined an Era
The Valjoux 72 is one of the most celebrated manual-winding chronograph calibres in watchmaking history. Revered for its three-register architecture and its association with the golden age of motorsport, it represents a time when performance was measured mechanically — when starting, stopping and resetting a chronograph was a tactile, physical act. For Singer Reimagined, a brand born from the same restoration philosophy that transformed iconic sports cars, the Valjoux 72 was the natural choice for the deepest expression of its "Restored" pillar.
Restoration as Transformation
Each Heritage V72 begins with a full assessment of unassembled NOS components. Every part is inspected for dimensional integrity before Singer's master watchmakers apply traditional haute horlogerie finishing: frosted bridges, hand-polished chamfers, rhodium-plating and a discreet blue ALD treatment on the switch component. Each restored movement is engraved with the words "Restored by Singer" — a mark of its rebirth.
A newly developed glass-box caseback reveals the calibre from an entirely new perspective, exposing bridges, levers and wheels that were never intended to be seen. It transforms the movement into a living mechanical landscape, elevating what was once treated as industrial into something worthy of contemplation.
Two Expressions, One Philosophy
The Heritage V72 is offered in two distinct references, both housed in a compact 38.8mm case with sunray satin finishing and mirror-polished chamfers.
SR620-1 — 18ct Yellow Gold The bolder of the two, featuring a velvety matte black dial set against a warm 18-carat yellow gold case. Champagne azurage subdials catch the light with subtle movement, creating a dialogue between darkness and radiance. A solid gold pin buckle completes the composition.
SR621 — Stainless Steel (CHF 23,000) A more restrained, technical interpretation with a velvety matte stone-gray dial and oyster azurage subdials. Tonal, balanced and quietly contemporary, this reference offers controlled modernity with deep connections to the restored movement within.
Both feature Singer's signature golden-toothed flange, faceted hour markers and measured gold accents that guide the eye without overwhelming the dial's calm precision.
