Massena Lab - TZ30
Massena LAB unveils its most intimate collaboration yet: the TZ30, a timepiece born from the shared passion of watch collector and Massena LAB founder William Massena, and celebrated independent watchmaker Raúl Pagès.
Limited to just 30 watches—one for each year of TimeZone.com's existence—the TZ30 distills three decades of horological discourse into a single, mesmerizing watch that pays tribute to the community that shaped modern watch collecting.
The Dial: A Hypnotic Blue Canvas
At first glance, the TZ30's dial commands attention with its vertically brushed blue surface, a treatment that creates a living, breathing texture. As light moves across the dial, it transforms from deep indigo to vibrant cobalt, ensuring no two moments with the watch look exactly the same. This dynamic backdrop is punctuated by crisply rhodium-plated baton indices that stand in brilliant contrast, while matching rhodium plating on the feuille hands and minute track dots adds a cohesive, refined brilliance.
The observatory-style layout—small seconds at 9 o'clock balanced by "Observatory Precision" at 3 o'clock—creates perfect symmetry while paying direct homage to the legendary Patek Philippe Ref. 2458, a unique piece created for collector J.B. Champion in 1952. This reference, sacred to longtime TimeZone enthusiasts, signals the TZ30's aspirations for precision and its deep roots in collecting culture. The dial is signed simply "Massena," marking this as a personal creation from one of watchmaking's most influential curators.
The M690 Movement: Independent Watchmaking at Its Finest
Powering the TZ30 is the proprietary M690 manual-winding movement, a product of true collaborative design between Massena LAB and Raúl Pagès. While Pagès—winner of the inaugural Louis Vuitton Watch Prize for Independent Creatives in 2024—oversees its creation through his network of Swiss watchmakers, the movement bears his unmistakable signature: the poinçon Pagès. Look beneath the balance wheel to find his tortoise emblem, a nod to his celebrated 2013 tortoise automaton and a mark of authenticity found only on the most exclusive independent creations.
Midcentury Elegance, Contemporary Proportions
The TZ30's stainless steel case draws inspiration from the refined dress watches of the mid-20th century, measuring a versatile 38.5mm in diameter with a svelte 10mm profile that slips effortlessly under a cuff. The warm mocha pebbled calfskin strap, handmade in Italy with contrasting white stitching, completes the vintage-inflected aesthetic while providing contemporary comfort. A stainless steel buckle bearing the Massena LAB signature ensures every detail reflects the collaboration's quality.
