Fam al Hut at The Lavish Attic
August 12, 2025
It was an honour to hold an event with Fam al Hut founder Dai Xinyan on their latest release—the Mark 1 Möbius.
In an era where true innovation in haute horlogerie is increasingly rare, the Fam al Hut Mark 1 Möbius emerges as a revelation—not merely for its technical prowess, but for what it represents: the arrival of China as a formidable force in independent watchmaking. This extraordinary timepiece distills complex micro-engineering into a wearable, avant-garde form that challenges assumptions about value, craftsmanship, and origin.
The Mark 1 Möbius makes its boldest statement by defying expectations. At its heart beats the in-house calibre M01T, a hand-wound movement that orchestrates one of watchmaking's most compelling mechanical ballets: a bi-axis tourbillon paired with retrograde jumping hours and minutes.
The watch was extremely well-received, and the skepticism of fellow watch collectors turned into excitement and admiration as Fam al Hut founder Dai Xinyan explained the intricate design and construction of the watch alongside a live prototype.
Suspended beneath a domed sapphire crystal, the bi-axis tourbillon is the undisputed centerpiece of the Möbius. Originally conceived in 1977 and adapted for wristwatches in the early 2000s by masters like Greubel Forsey, this complication remains exceptionally rare—particularly at this scale.
The tourbillon cage itself evokes the Möbius strip that gives the watch its name, a subtle twist symbolizing infinity and the continuous flow of time. Later upgraded to an exclusive titanium alloy case, it rotates on two axes: the first every 60 seconds, the second every 90 seconds—a refinement made after early prototypes revealed that a slower 150-second rotation lacked the desired kinetic drama. The result is a mesmerizing display that transforms timekeeping into pure mechanical theater.
Thank you to founder Dai Xinyan and everyone who joined us at the event!
