Holthinrichs Watches x The Lavish Attic - 8-piece Limited Edition - ORNAMENT NOUVEAU “THE SPIRIT OF BLUE”

Introducing “SPIRIT OF BLUE”

“We are extremely honoured to be the first retailer in Hong Kong for Holthinrichs Watches. Their Ornament Nouveau, which features the first in-house developed Dutch-manufactured movement, will be presented as a special edition with The Lavish Attic this time. This makes it the perfect timepiece to celebrate this remarkable collaboration.”

- Piano Chow, Founder of The Lavish Attic

In an inspired collaboration with Holthinrichs Watches, we proudly unveil the Spirit of Blue — a striking limited edition of The Ornament Nouveau, produced in just four exclusive pieces. This exceptional timepiece captivates at first glance with its vivid titanium blue dial ring, a bold, periwinkle accent that sets the tone for the watch’s avant-garde elegance. From its titanium blue barrel lids and finely diamond-hammered main plate to the architectural 3D stainless steel bridges and case, each detail speaks to a fusion of cutting-edge craftsmanship and artistic expression.

An Architectural Approach

“I want people to experience the emotional sensations that architecture can evoke through its spatial, structural and artisanal complexity: architecture on the wrist. That is why our watches are called after the architectural ornament.”

- Michiel Holthinrichs, Founder of Holthinrichs Watches

Holthinrichs Watches was founded as a direct way to express Michiel’s architectural design vision in watchmaking. After four years of pioneering into new 3D metal printing technologies, he was able to create a timepiece that featured an unprecedented skeletonized case shape. It proved the technology could be used to create exceptional designs in horology, and it marked the introduction of their signature sculptural design language.

In this way, their concept is centred around creating timepieces that are characterised by unique, architectural inspired sculptural designs, which make use of high-level technical development and extensive manual finishing. Holthinrichs Watches make and develop many components in-house, from case designs, to movement components and dials.

All their designs are strongly inspired by the elegant and three dimensional shapes of the Art Nouveau, as well as the clear lines, proportions, and materialistic expression found in Art Nouveau, Art Deco and early modernism. Great architects such as Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, Victor Horta, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Eero Saarinen, Santiago Calatrava, and car designers like Battista Farina serve as major sources of inspiration. They demonstrate the philosophy of Holthinrichs Watches - pure art resulting from a holistic and innovative approach, an exceptional sense for spatial composition, simple but refined lines, clear materialistic principles and expressions, and craftsmanship. They aim to create art that incites emotions - then, now, and in the future.

The Ornament Nouveau

The standard Ornament Nouveau watch has a high-end 3D-printed stainless steel case with organic lugs and textures inspired by Art Nouveau and nature. Its HW-M02 is the first fully Dutch-manufactured movement developed in-house by the atelier, featuring architecturally-constructed steel bridges and a transparent sapphire Holthinbridge to reveal the full beauty of the in-house free-sprung balance wheel.

Every detail of the watch, from the bevels, grains, polished surfaces and hand-hammered patterns, truly plays with the light from all angles. The Eclipse Dial turns deep blue under UV light, with an anodised blue titanium index ring, by leaving two hands to emphasize time and protects oils in the skeleton movement outdoors.

This first model was part of a project for The Lavish Attic‘s 11th anniversary and it was sold as a unique piece for HKD736,600 at the Phillips Auction HK in 2024.

Bespoke options

We offer bespoke options for a personalised Spirit of Blue. While the standard material for the hands is plain steel, it can be upgraded to a heat blued steel, heat purpled steel, or even lume-filled. The steel options are shaped by manual polished anglage, with a brushed top surface. Meanwhile, the lume-filled hands are available in three colours - blue, yellow, and orange.

The caseback side of the mainplate is designed as a canvas, serving as a playground for manual surface finishing with choices of ceramic frosting, hand-hammering, grattage, and brutalist designs.

  • Ceramic frosting: the surface is treated with fine ceramic grit, creating a strikingly sparkling effect under direct lighting

  • Hand-hammering: a horology hammer and fine stake is used to create a repetitive pattern of small indentations

  • Grattage: a manually applied cross pattern inspired by traditional flattening indentations

  • Brutalist: An expressionistic aesthetic, achieved by manually carving into the surface of the platine

The pinnacle of beauty, laser or handmade engravings provide an ultimate luxury and bespoke appeal. The design is 100% made on request and based on personal input. Options include laser-engraved ratchets, fully laser-engraved mainplates, hand-engraved ratchets, and fully hand-engraved mainplates.

  • Laser-engraved ratchets: custom laser-engraving of the ratchet wheels (two wheels, two designs possible)

  • Fully laser-engraved mainplate: custom laser-engraving of the full mainplate + the ratchet wheels

  • Hand-engraved ratchets: custom hand-engraving of the ratchet wheels (two wheels, two designs possible)

  • Fully hand-engraved mainplate: custom hand-engravings that feature elegant, flowing sweeps - these unique shapes elevate the overall design of Ornament Nouveau to the highest extent
