Shaped by evolution
What if a mechanical watch evolved by natural, not engineering rules? This defines the limited-edition TYPE 10 DN (Dark Night), capped at 100 pieces. Conceived from Benoît Mintiens’ 2022 sketches and refined over four years, it is Ressence’s first oil-filled watch with a proprietary in-house movement. Following the evolution of early cars and aircraft, discrete components merge into one integrated form. It embraces fluid, seamless surfaces where case, sapphire and dial flow together as a single evolved object.
Monolith
A core Ressence pursuit is dematerialisation, erasing visual boundaries between parts. On the wrist, TYPE 10 DN reads as a monochromatic monolith, carved from a single block of material. Its Grade 5 titanium case wears a hard DLC coating, matched by a deep-blue Dark Night dial and integrated rubber strap. The oil bath optically pulls the rotating ROCS discs close to the sapphire, dissolving visual gaps. Hours, minutes, a second time zone and runner sit on one continuous graphic plane.
Oil and air inside
The oil-filled display delivers its signature clarity while solving a tough mechanical puzzle: movement runs in air, ROCS discs rotate in oil. Two hermetically sealed, separate chambers solve this. Motion transfers contactlessly across a thin titanium partition via paired micro-magnets, spaced just 0.2 mm apart. An expansion chamber absorbs oil’s thermal expansion to prevent bubbles. Every unit undergoes factory temperature cycling between 60°C and -5°C.
The Future is lighter
Despite its complex mechanism, TYPE 10 weighs only 82 grams. The 41.5 mm DLC titanium case has double-domed sapphires front and back, revealing the donut-shaped RW-04 through the caseback. Ressence’s Compression Lock System grants 5 ATM water resistance. Lightness is part of its evolutionary design philosophy — stripping away excess mass for comfortable, unobtrusive daily wear.
The Future is Brighter
TYPE 10 is built around a forward-looking vision of integrated watchmaking. Fluid lines and the three-dimensional ROCS 10 display turn time into form. Over 500 individual components recede visually into clean graphics. Complexity stays hidden inside; the wearer experiences quiet unity. That is its natural evolutionary achievement.
