Kollokium - Projekt 01 Variant G

Two years after the Projekt 01 first challenged conventional watch design, its sixth iteration arrives in a color that customers have consistently requested: blue. The Variant G, limited to 499 pieces across two handset configurations, demonstrates that sometimes listening to your audience and maintaining creative integrity aren’t mutually exclusive.

Why Blue, Why Now

The Projekt 01’s neubrutalist architecture—characterized by its raw industrial forms and technical aggression—has previously appeared in black, grey, and violet. Each iteration pushed boundaries. This time, Kollokium chose restraint. Variant G trades dystopian synthetics for something closer to an oxford shirt: still sharp, still deliberate, but more sartorially versatile. The matte powdery cornflower dial absorbs light rather than shouting for attention, while the blue-emitting Super-LumiNova maintains the model’s signature nocturnal presence. It’s a mature interpretation that proves you don’t need fluorescent accents to stand apart.

The Dial: 468 Points of Interest

The Variant G’s face is neither printed nor stamped. It’s built. Six different widths and heights of steel pins—468 in total—are individually set by hand into the dial base, their hollowed tips filled with luminescent pigment, creating a topography that casts shadows even at noon. Each pin receives a deep navy blue PVD coating with a matte metallic finish that catches light without reflecting it. The process takes hours per dial and explains both the limited production run and the subtle variations that make each piece unique. From across a room, it reads as texture. Up close, it’s a miniature industrial landscape.

A Case Like No Other

Here’s where technical ambition becomes tangible. The 316L stainless steel case isn’t milled or machined—it’s die-cast. Molten steel is injected into a mold, a process watchmakers typically avoid because it’s difficult to control and produces unpredictable results. Kollokium chose it precisely for those reasons. The resulting surface is neither matte nor frosted but occupies an in-between state that feels unexpectedly soft against the wrist while looking aggressively utilitarian. The finish is intentionally left raw—no polishing, no embellishment—just steel in its industrial form.

The case architecture itself is a two-part system: a barrel-shaped base with lugs that echo cruciform screwdriver heads, chiseled down to only what’s structurally necessary. A cylindrical middle section sits atop this foundation, protecting the movement inside its steel container. The only branding appears cast into the left flank: “K,P-n°01,” the project’s internal dossier designation. A triangular crown that resembles a valve completes the tool-watch aesthetic without imitating anything else on the market.

The Strap: Functional Comfort

The integrated strap continues the industrial-outdoor brief. Inspired by technical climbing gear, it’s a single-piece elastic weave that breathes, dries quickly, and maintains just enough tension to stay secure without constricting. A hook fastening system and stitched adjustment loops let you resize it without tools—practical for actual daily wear, not just showroom appeal. It’s the kind of detail that suggests Kollokium views watches as tools first, status markers second.

Two Personalities, One Dial

Variant G offers two handset choices. The first configuration preserves the original concept: white seconds hand for motion visibility, with hour and minute hands that blend into the dial for minimal disruption. The second prioritizes legibility: metallic blue PVD hands with bright white edges and a more subdued blue seconds hand.
